Blessed with a natural environment such as clean water and a favorable climate, this distillery produces high-quality shochu. Not only the production environment but also ingredients are carefully selected and managed by skilled artisans. Thus, Okuchi Shuzo produces shochu by the fusion of traditional methods, advanced technology and the dedication of craftspeople.

Product Description: Kuroisanishiki is sweet potato shochu. Called “Kuroisa” by fans, it has been loved in Kagoshima since 1987. Main ingredients are sweet potatoes, black koji and rice. All of the sweet potatoes that is used for production are raised and harvested in Kagoshima. Also, the rice is Japanese-grown too. In the production process, koji making is conducted at first and followed by the first fermentation. Sweet potatoes are put together in the second fermentation. The fermenting mass (moromi) is distilled with pot stills after two fermentation and it becomes shochu. Soft aroma and light sweetness are Kuroisa’s features. On the rocks, highball, straightany way goes well to enjoy it. In particular, Oyuwari (mixing with hot water) is the traditional and standard way to drink sweet potato shochu in Kagoshima and it would emphasize its aroma and sweetness. Not only Japanese home cuisine but any food can be a good pairing for Kuroisa.
