"Undokai" Field Day
Undokai is one of the biggest events in the life of a Japanese elementary school students. “Undo” means to exercise and “Kai” means to gather. It began as an annual tradition of condctin sports day in Japanese schools since 1885. Student’s are divided up into two teams. Team Red and Team White. It’s the Superbowl for these students without the TV exposure and sponsorship. That doesn’t mean the competition isn’t fierce. They practice and train for a month to compete for claiming the title of Undokai Champion. The goal of the event is to encourage team work and giving your all, rather than competing against one another. Individual prizes are not given at this event.
